A five-storey building in Ruiru town, Kiambu County has collapsed.
The building collapsed on Monday morning, November 21, barely hours after Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi led an evacuation operation on Sunday.
Governor Wamatangi oversaw the evacuation of 100 tenants from the building after receiving a report on the danger from the National Construction Authority (NCA).
“Tenants can no longer stay in this house because its columns- which are supposed to support it have cracked. It cannot stand for long. If not for the neighbouring house that is supporting it, it could already be down,” Wamatangi told the press during the evacuation of the tenants.
Kiambaa MP John Njuguna has called on NCA to be more responsible following the collapse of the building in Ruiru.

“I think we have a serious problem with the National Construction Authority and the county government, they need to wake up and become more responsible," Njuguna said.
This comes days after another six-storey building collapsed in Ruaka, Kiambu county.
The building collapsed on a neighbouring house with family members who were asleep on Thursday, November 17, near the Fortune Club area.
