Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga has claimed that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is best suited to take over from former president Uhuru Kenyatta as the Mt. Kenya kingpin.
Addressing the media on Friday, November 25, Kahiga said that Gachagua worked for Uhuru for many years and it was now time for him to take over.
The governor maintained that the former Head of State was doing a good job on the international stage, and it was not good for him to be brought down to the local level.
"And if you ask me, that position (Mt Kenya kingpin) will continue earning its respect in the former president. And he is doing a good job now internationally. You bring him down to our level, we are going to mess it up. Let him remain wherever he is with the respect he has," Kahiga stated.

The county boss said that at the moment, it was only the Deputy President who was capable of continuing to unite the Mt. Kenya region.
"But at this point let us all agree that we have Rigathi Gachagua who can continue on this journey. For 20 years, Gachagua worked with Uhuru Kenyatta. I think leadership wrapped off Uhuru to Gachagua. It's time now for him to continue shining on that stage," he said.
Speaking during the same press briefing, EALA MP Kanini Kega concurred with Kahiga in maintaining that Gachagua was the senior-most leader in Mt. Kenya.
He said that they will unite as Mt. Kenya leaders from different political factions to support the Deputy President.
