Report Reveals Most Paid Monthly Salaries for Employed Kenyans

A report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has revealed the distribution of monthly income for employed Kenyans.

As detailed in the Statistical Abstract Report, the majority of employed Kenyans earned between Ksh50,000 to Ksh99,999 per month in 2023.

The number of employees earning within that salary range was 1,426,245. In terms of gender, the males were 908,004 while the females were 518,242.

Meanwhile, the second most-paid salary range for employed Kenyans was Ksh30,000 - Ksh49,999. 1,012,500 employees fell in this salary range.

Meanwhile, only 387,418 employees in the country earned Ksh100,000. In this category, male employees dominated at 247,571 while their female counterparts were 139,847.

"Earnings or wages cover all cash payments, including basic salary, cost of living allowances, profit bonus, together with the value of rations and freeboard, and an estimate of the employer’s contribution towards housing.

"Earnings, as shown in this section, are lower than the estimate of factor income going to employees because they exclude: pensions, employers’ contributions to the National Social Security Fund or private provident funds and personal emoluments for the armed forces," read the report in part.

Those earning between Ksh20,000 to Ksh24,999 were 112,490 while those earning between Ksh25,000 to Ksh29,999 were 91,109.

Lowest Paid Employees

Notably, the report also exposed that 12,062 employees were earning less than Ksh10,000 per month.

Those earning between Ksh10,000 and Ksh14,999 per month were 40,167 employees.
