Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Ukur Yatani announced on Monday that the 2022/23 budget statement will be released on April 7.
In a statement from the National Treasury, the CS stated that the budget will be read in the National Assembly at 3 p.m. on that date.
This means that the 2022/23 budget will be read two months earlier than the previous budget statements. This is to enable swift planning for the upcoming August 9 General Election.
The April session in Parliament is also expected to be CS Yatani’s last budget presentation under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

“The overall change in the financial year 2021/2022 budget estimates will be a reduction of Sh8.9 billion on account of Government of Kenya (GoK) funded expenditure and Sh6.1 billion on account of externally financed projects,” Yatani stated.
However, the budget was an increase of 4.8 percent from that of the 2020/2021 financial year, which had a budget of Sh2.9 trillion.
The rate of inflation in the country has shot up, with Kenyans now grappling with the rising prices of food commodities. Kenyans will be keen on the 2022/23 budget to determine how the government is planning to lower inflation.
