Switch TV Presenters Mwikali Mary and Nana Owiti broke down in tears during a live interview that aired on the night of April 19, 2021.
Mwikali who hosts the show, Full Circle With Mwikali had invited Nana as the guest to mark April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
During the interview, Nana recounted her experience living with an abusive relative at the age of nine.
Tears poured down her face while she recalled the story, bravely recollecting the traumatising events.
Mwikali also could not hold in her tears. They trickled down her cheeks as she listened to Nana's narration.
“I told my mom that he was pinching me to make it palatable for her and she joked about it and she asked him why he was pinching me,” the Chat Spot host said.
“Why are you not asking me where I’m being pinched? Why are you not raising questions about his behaviour? ” Nana posed to her mother at the time.
She had kept the incidents to herself until 2017 when she told her husband, rapper Kennedy Ombima alias King Kaka.
Nana would later narrate the incidents to one of her aunts who like her mother, downplayed the story.
Her revelation comes at a time when the country combats rising cases of sexual gender-based violence.
A report by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection released in 2020 revealed that 15.6 per cent of girls aged between 18 and 24 experienced sexual abused while growing up compared to 6.4 per cent of young men.
12.5 percent of the women that have been sexually abused reported or sought help for the matter.
