It also allows users to build online communities and networks. In Kenya, X is one of the platforms Kenyans use to get and verify breaking news items. 

In this article, we outline some of the most followed Kenyan media personalities on X:

Larry Madowo

The CNN international correspondent is the most followed media personality in the country on X.

He joined the platform in May 2009 and had accumulated over 2.5 million followers as of October 2023. Madowo follows 2,271 accounts. His posts range from news items to normal life banter.

Jeff Koinange

The Citizen TV journalist has 2.3 million followers on X. He joined the platform in January 2011 and follows 1,985 accounts. He uses his accounts to post new content and push client campaigns. 

Mohammed Ali alias Moha Jicho Pevu 

The former Standard Media Group investigative journalist has 1.5 million followers on X. He created his account in June 2010 and follows 52 accounts only. He currently serves as Nyali constituency Member of Parliament.

Prior to joining the political scene, he was widely known for his investigative series that saw him dubbed 'Jicho Pevu'.

Julie Gichuru

The veteran journalist is the fourth most followed media personality on X in the country. She has 1.3 million followers and follows 1,880 accounts. She joined the platform in December 2010. She uses her account to publish and share new items.

Betty Kyallo

The former KTN and K24 TV journalist had 1.2 million followers as of October 2023. She joined X in October 2009 and follows 759 accounts. She uses her account to engage with her followers and push different brands including her salons and other business ventures.

The three are not journalists but have a close relationship with the media industry. Itumbi and Alai have been bloggers, while Mwangi is a photographer and human rights activist.

Itumbi has over 2.2 million followers, Alai has over 1.9 million followers, and Mwangi has 1.8 million followers.

Itumbi and Alai are currently in the political space and mostly use their accounts to push their political agenda, while Mwangi uses his account for activism and personal business activities.
