Celebrated Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi has blasted Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) boss Ezekiel Mutua for calling him a “poor man”.
Speaking during an interview on Thursday, Dr Mutua claimed Eric Omondi was clout chasing after he reportedly gave Bahati Sh200,000 following KFCB’s decision to withdraw their partnership deal with the ‘Mama’ hit maker, worth the same amount.
According to Mutua, Eric and Kenyan comedians are poor and cannot afford to raise such an amount. He claimed they are engaging in sideshows to create an impression that they can do better than the government when it comes to supporting artists.
“Hakuna pesa alitoa, Omondi ni maskini, hio ni sarakasi tu. Hakuna pesa ya kweli hao wote ni maskini wa kusaidiwa. Omondi hana ata elfu kumi ya kupea watu. Wasanii wanaumia,” he said.

Reacting to Dr Mutua’s remarks, Eric claimed he has a lot of money which he has made through hard work and accused the KFCB boss of accumulating wealth through misappropriation of public funds.
Eric further noted that he is currently in Tanzania, but when he gets back, he’ll work towards ensuring the Dr Mutua is kicked out of office by September.
“Enough is Enough!!! We have to stop this Nonsense!!! All the money I make is through blood and Sweat, most of the money you make is through Misappropriation of Public funds. Kama mimi ni Maskini basi wewe ni mwizi wa pesaza Serikali. You promised @mulamwah only to withdraw at the last minute, then you did the same with @bahatikenya only to let him down on the day of his event I had to come through for him like a true brother, but you are a pathological liar Daktari.
“I am currently in Dar Es Salaam about to make history by filling up the national stadium and making money while at it. I promise you by the time I land back in Kenya I will ensure you are not occupying that office by September, juu you cannot call an entire industry maskini ambao hawajiwezi. Hawa ni Vijana ambao wanajituma ili wapate chakula. Enough!” he said.
Following the exchange, a section of artists rallied behind Eric and condemned Mutua for his remarks. Some even called for his immediate ouster.
