67 Meru MCAs voted to impeach Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Meru County Assembly Speaker Ayub Bundi has notified Senate Speaker Amason Kingi of Governor Kawira Mwangaza's impeachment.

In a letter on Thursday, December 15, Bundi sated that in a special string on Wednesday, the county assembly approved the motion remove Mwangaza from office by impeachment.

The Meru County Speaker further provided the Senate Speaker with the evidence and documents that were tabled during the motion of impeaching Mwangaza.

"This is to inform you that on Wednesday, December 14, during the afternoon sitting, the County Assembly of Meru approved the motion to remove from office the Governor of Meru County by way of impeachment.

"The purpose of this letter is therefore to inform you of the aforementioned resolution and to forward the same to your esteemed office in line with the provisions of Section 33 (2) (a) of the county government Act, 2012 and Standing Order No.65 (6) of the Meru County Assembly Standing Orders for your further action," read part of the statement.

Following the letter, Kingi will convene a special sitting in the Senate to consider the impeachment of Mwangaza.

On Wednesday, 67 Meru MCAs voted to remove the governor from office over abuse of office claims and gross violation of the Constitution.  

This comes barely a month after the High Court saved her from the first impeachment on grounds that the MCAs did not follow the correct procedure.
