Kakamega and Mombasa are among the counties expected to experience rainfall.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall in 14 counties on Saturday, September 12, while most parts of the country are expected to remain generally dry.

In its 24-hour weather forecast issued Friday, September 11, and valid from 9pm that night to 9pm on Saturday, the department said showers are expected in Kericho, Kakamega, Vihiga, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Murang'a, Meru, Embu, Mombasa, Lamu, Kilifi and Kwale counties.

The weatherman also warned of strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots over Turkana, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Kitui counties.

Coastal and lowland counties are expected to record the warmest temperatures of the day. Mandera leads with a maximum of 36°C, matched by Turkana, while Garissa and Wajir are both forecast to hit 34°C.

Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and Lamu will see highs of 29°C, with light showers likely tonight and sunny intervals expected by afternoon.

In the central highlands, cooler conditions prevail. Nyandarua is expected to record the day's lowest minimum at 9°C, with Nyeri at 13°C and Kiambu at 12°C.

Nairobi will experience a maximum of 24°C and a minimum of 14°C, with partly cloudy skies and light showers likely tonight, cloudy conditions with a chance of light rain in the morning, and sunny intervals with a chance of light showers in the afternoon.

Western Kenya counties, including Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and Uasin Gishu, are expected to experience sunny intervals in the morning giving way to moderate showers and thunderstorms over a few places by afternoon.

According to rainfall data recorded between 9am on September 10 and 9am on September 11, Ruruma station recorded the highest rainfall at approximately 38mm, followed by Kisii station at roughly 34mm and Mtwapa at about 33mm. Mombasa station recorded around 30mm, while Dzitsoni Lib recorded approximately 23mm.

Nairobi will experience sunrise at 6:26am and sunset at 6:31pm, according to the department's forecast for the country's major cities.
