School transport vehicles are currently undergoing road safety compliance checks in various parts of the country.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has outlined seven requirements for all school transport vehicles to ensure the safety of learners.

In a statement on Monday, May 13, the state agency intimated that school transport vehicles are currently undergoing road safety compliance checks in various parts of the country.

NTSA disclosed that each school bus should have a functional speed limiter that is onboarded onto the NTSA Intelligent Road Safety Management System.

It further maintained that the driver of each of the vehicles must have the requisite DL class endorsement and a valid PSV badge.

A valid inspection certificate, valid Road Service Licence (RSL), functional seatbelts, and valid vehicle insurance were other requirements by NTSA.

"School administration MUST put in place measures to ensure full Compliance with the requirements of the Traffic Act and the PSV regulations," NTSA stated on X.

Additionally, the authority cautioned against overloading school vehicles and urged all motorists to be cautious and mindful of other road users as learners go back to school.
