KeNHA asked motorists to approach the section with caution and cooperate with the traffic police on the site.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of Nyerere Road in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

In a notice, KeNHA stated that the road will remain closed from Friday, May 24, at 11:00 pm to Saturday, May 25, at midnight.

According to the authority, the temporary closure was to allow for maintenance works on the road.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that there will be a temporary closure of Nyerere Road near the University of Nairobi roundabout. This closure is scheduled to commence from Friday, May 24, 2024, at 11.00 pm to Saturday, May 25, 2024, at midnight all days inclusive,” KeHHA stated.

However, KeNHA issued alternative routes to motorists accessing Nyerere Road through Uhuru Highway.

“Motorists accessing Uhuru Highway (A8) through Nyerere Road are advised to use Kenyatta Avenue through Processional Way and Riverside Drive, through State House Road, Arboretum Drive and Ring Road Kileleshwa,” KeNHA advised.

It further asked motorists to approach the section with caution and cooperate with the traffic police on the site.

The temporary closure of Nyerere Road comes days after the Kenyan Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced traffic disruptions along Valley Road for two days.

In a statement on Friday, May 17, KURA Director General Silas Kinoti said the closure of some sections of the road will allow the contractor to make improvements on the road.

“We wish to notify the general public that there will be traffic disruption along Valley Road, Nairobi from 6 AM Saturday, 18th May till 6 PM Monday 20th May 2024. This is to allow the contractor on site to improve sections of the road,” read the statement in part.
