The U.S. Embassy offices in Nairobi will remain closed on Monday, May 27.

In a statement, the embassy disclosed that the move was meant to mark Memorial Day, which is  a holiday in the U.S. for honouring the U.S. military personnel who died while serving the country.

"In observance of #MemorialDay, the embassy will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2024," read the statement by the embassy.

The United States Mission to NATO said on Monday that the Memorial Day was a time for the U.S. to stand in defense of its freedom and values.

"#HonorThem and remember them. On this #MemorialDay and every day, we pay tribute to our fallen heroes by standing up in defense of our freedom and of our values," United States Mission to NATO posted on X.

President William Ruto pays his respects to the United States of America’s fallen heroes.

During his state visit in the U.S., President William Ruto paid his respects to the US's fallen heroes by visiting the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

The Head of State asserted that through the sacrifices of the fallen U.S. military heroes, we have a better and free world.

"We honour the U.S. Army for defending and serving their nation with diligence. Through their sacrifice, we have a freer and better world for everyone. At the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, paid our respects to the United States of America’s fallen heroes," President Ruto remarked.

The U.S. military has conducted several missions across the globe previously and it was during these missions that some men in uniform lost their lives.
