Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told off critics labeling him a tribalist over the one man, one vote one shilling revenue sharing formula.
Speaking in Samburu County on Friday, May 7, Gachagua wondered why he was being criticised, unlike Azimio leader Raila Odinga who has also come out in support of the formula.
"I saw yesterday that Raila Odinga said the same thing I said, and I haven't seen him being called a tribalist. I have seen Eugene Wamalwa say the same, and he hasn't been called a tribalist either. Their statements are just opinions, it is not necessary that they must be implemented," Gachagua stated.
He went on to say that he has a right to have an opinion on matters in the country despite being a Deputy President.
“The fact that I am Deputy President does not extinguish my right as a Kenyan, as per the Constitution to have an opinion. That opinion is not a command, allow me to persuade you that this formula can work,” Gachagua added.

On Thursday Raila declared support for the one man one vote one shilling formula saying it would ensure fair distribution of resources in the country.
The former Prime Minister said it was time for a nationwide conversation on the distribution of resources.
“Some people don’t want to hear it but we want to ensure that every Kenyan is equally treated that is why we are saying one man one vote one shilling, I agree totally with this, I am not a populist, I always talk my mind openly,” Raila stated.
The ODM leader also hinted at working with DP Gachagua on the push for the one man one vote one shilling revenue-sharing formula saying he had seen light and has turned from Saul to Paul.
