Chief Justice Martha Koome confirmed via the X platform on Saturday, June 15.
According to Koome, the injuries sustained by the judicial officer were extensive thus losing the battle.
She pledged the Judiciary's support to the bereaved family as they endure loss.
"I wish to confirm to the Nation that Hon. Monica Kivuti, Principal Magistrate, Makadara Law Courts has lost the fight against the extensive injuries sustained during an open gun attack in Court. The Judiciary family stands in solidarity during this deeply traumatic time and calls for sensitivity and compassion as we share in grief.
Kivuti's death happened moments after she had requested blood donation via her caregivers at the hospital.
In the shooting incident at Makadara Law Courts, the magistrate canceled the bond for the police officer’s wife after she jumped bond and failed to offer a satisfactory explanation.
The officer, who was later identified as Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, opened fire on the Makadara magistrate, injuring her on the hip before the officer was killed by officers present in the court session.
"Police officers on the scene responded and neutralized the shooter, and the Magistrate was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Preliminary reports indicate that the shooter is a police officer who is married to the suspect," Judiciary said in a statement.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), two police constables were also injured during the incident and were admitted to the Metropolitan Hospital in Buruburu.
Police Inspector General Japhet Koome stated that specialized teams led by the DCI Homicide Unit were conducting an investigation into the incident.
