Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome on Tuesday, June 18 met Haitian police officials at the National Police Service (NPS) headquarters in Nairobi to discuss the Kenyan-led Multilateral Security Support Mission to Haiti.
In a statement after the meeting, NPS said IG Koome assured the Haitian police delegation of Kenya’s commitment to the mission.
"NPS remains committed to collaboration in the mission, for the good of the people of Haiti, especially women and children,” Koome stated.
Haitian Police official Joachim Prohete on his part said they are counting on the Kenyan police’s support to restore peace in the Caribbean nation.
“We are counting on your support”, said the Haitian Police official during the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Inspector General Kenya Police Service, Douglas Kanja, and Deputy Inspector General Administration Police Service, Noor Gabow, who is the lead NPS Officer on the Haiti Mission.
The meeting comes weeks after a reconnaissance team deployed to the Caribbean nation returned and briefed President William Ruto about their assessment before the deployment of the Kenyan police officers.
Kenya is expected to deploy 1000 police officers to silence gangs that have taken over most parts of Haiti.
Apart from Kenya, other countries that will send officers to Haiti are Chile, Jamaica, Grenada, Paraguay, Burundi, Chad, Nigeria, and Mauritius.
The deployment which was set to begin on February this year was delayed by court battles followed by the resignation of former Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry.
However, the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) was formed and appointed Garry Connile as the new Prime Minister of Haiti.
