The suspect was arrested while walking on the street.

Police in Bamburi, Mombasa, have arrested a suspected gangster and confiscated a Ceska pistol following a tip-off.

In a statement by DCI on Thursday, August 8, the suspect, Stephen Mutunga Kimeu, was arrested after reports from the public that there was an individual carrying a gun on the street.

The officers responded and apprehended him and when they conducted a search on him, they recovered the gun which was loaded with five rounds. 

"The suspect, Stephen Mutunga Kimeu, 43, was apprehended in Bamburi while walking along old Malindi road. This followed reports from the public about a suspicious individual who appeared to be carrying a weapon along that road," DCI stated.

A Ceska pistol and five rounds were recovered from the suspect.

It added, "Officers responded swiftly and intercepted the suspect. Upon conducting a quick body search, they found a Ceska pistol with serial number g4151 (KE KP G4151) in his possession."

The directorate further disclosed that an ID card, mobile phone and two bus tickets were recovered from the suspect.

"Additionally, an ID bearing his name, an itel phone, and two buscar bus tickets for a trip to Lamu were recovered," DCI remarked.

The suspect was taken into custody at Bamburi Police Station pending arraignment as further investigations into the matter began.
