Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has refuted allegations of being in possession of land title deeds meant for affordable housing projects in Nairobi.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, October 24, in Nairobi, Sonko denied holding the land title deeds for Jeevanjee and Pangani affordable housing projects.
Instead, the former county boss claimed that they were in the possession of the National Bank of Kenya and produced documents indicating the same.
The documents indicated that the Nairobi County Government charged the property for Ksh1.9 billion to secure a loan for the project.
"My attention has been drawn to accusations captured in media that I'm in possession of land titles belonging to Jeevanjee and Pangani affordable housing projects. The title deed is with the National Bank of Kenya and it was charged for Ksh1.9 billion.

"The charge was registered on May 29, 2023. Was Sonko the governor during that time? That was three years after my impeachment. Stop tarnishing my good name," Sonko claimed.
He maintained that even though the title deeds were processed in 2018 while he was governor, the affordable housing projects in Nairobi were planned during the tenure of former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.
The former governor challenged the Nairobi County government to complete the project and vowed to make a follow up.
"Even if I'm a nobody, I'll do a thorough follow-up and ensure the poor people who we promised that they would own the houses own those houses. You have the money from investors, tenants and National Bank. Finish the projects and give Kenyans there houses," Sonko stated.
His remarks come after a member of the Nairobi County Planning Committee told the County Assembly that the title deeds were in the possession of the former governor.
