The public figure will use a DAP-K party ticket to unseat Governor Sakaja.

One-time political analyst and journalist Tony Gachoka has announced he will be vying for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general election.

Gachoka announced his bid via the X social network.

"It is official: Tony Gachoka will vie for Governor Nairobi against Babu Owino and the ODM party," he said.

The journalist would go for the post via the Eugene Wamalwa-led DAP-K party.

"I will vie on a DAP-K party ticket, many thanks to my age mate Eugene Wamalwa for my ticket! God be with you and Kalonzo. I have just informed both Kalonzo and Okiya Omtatah. Let's go Nairobi," Gachoka's tweet further read.

Gachoka had a stint with the Standard Group-owned KTN News, where he hosted the Point Blank show, in which eminent politicians and personalities showed up to give their perspectives on topical matters. 

He is also known to have been an aide to former prime minister and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

In the recent past, Gachoka, who had maintained a low profile after his show went affair, made a comeback with his commitment to challenge the controversial Adani Group deals with the Kenyan government.

He joined Eugene and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in their legal suits against the Public-Private Partnership (PPP), which would see the Indian firm renovate and operate the country's critical infrastructure, such as the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Incumbent Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja is expected to defend his tenure in the oncoming vote.
