The government has barred County government's from holding Mashujaa Day celebrations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, this will be the case in order to adhere to the government regulations set to stop further spread of Covid-19.
"Kirinyaga County will be the host for this year’s Mashujaa Day. No celebrations will be held in other counties as has always been the case.
"We don’t want to escalate the spread of Covid-19, and that is why we are freezing similar activities in other counties Majority of Kenyans will follow the proceedings through broadcast mediums from the comfort of their homes," he said.
This year's national Mashujaa Day celebration will be held in Kirinyaga County at the Wanguru stadium.
The PS said that only 2,000 people will be allowed into the Wanguru stadium that has a capacity of 10,000.
Last year's celebration was held in Kisii County. Other Counties that have held the yearly event include; Nakuru, Mombasa, Machakos, Meru, Nyeri, Kakamega and Narok.
Kibicho who also inspected the ongoing works at the stadium said it is 80 percent complete and it's completion is expected on October 5th, 2021.
Mashujaa celebrations are held on October 20th, every year.
