A man in Kirinyaga County has left residents in shock after he took his own life after his mother denied him money to buy bhang.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, January 3, Mwea-West Police Commander Wilson Koskei said that the deceased got angry after being denied the money, before he hanged himself in his rented house.
Koskei stated that the 26-year-old's mother thought that her son had gone to sleep, but when she peeped through the window the next morning, she discovered that he had hanged himself.
"Aliomba mamake pesa aende anunue msokoto ya bangi na mama akakataa kumpatia. Katika hiyo hali, alikuwa ameonekana akiwa mdhaifu sana na ulevi ilikuwa ndani yake. Katika hiyo hasira alienda kwa nyumba yake ambayo amekodisha akaenda akalala na asubuhi wazazi walikuwa wanafikiria ameenda tu kulala. Kumbe jamaa alichukua kamba na akajinyonga," Koskei said.

The police commander said that they had already processed the scene and that the deceased had been moved to a nearby mortuary.
He said that cases of suicide had been rampant in the area, and in most cases, they involved young people.
"Hapa kesi mingi za kujinyonga zinashangaza sana. Na wenye kujinyonga ni vijan wadogo. Sijui nini inasumbua wao. Nahimiza vijana wasijihusishe na mambo ya mihadarati. Hivi ndio vitu vinawamaliza," Koskei added.
