Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come under sharp criticism over his remarks about who owns Government.

Speaking on Sunday, February 20 in Kericho County, Gachagua said that those who voted for the government will enjoy the benefits first.

The Deputy President equaled the people who voted for Kenya Kwanza as the majority stakeholders in the current Government.

"This Government is like a company guaranteed by shares. There are those with many shares and those with few shares. Therefore those who voted for us and supported us must enjoy the benefits first," Gachagua said.

A section of leaders from the Opposition hit out at the Deputy President stating that every Kenyan pays taxes and should be served equally by the State.

Another tweet said, "They should collect taxes from those who voted them in, then."

At the same time, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei has defended the Deputy President saying his remarks have been taken out of context.
