Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu challenged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over the provisions in the Finance Bill 2023.
Speaking at a school in Kitui County on Saturday, June 3, the deputy president rallied lawmakers in the National Assembly behind the bill which has been heavily critiqued by a section of Kenyans.
He said that despite the opposition, the bill would sail through considering the power Kenya Kwanza faction wields in parliament.
However, commenting on the bill, Mulu said he would not be voting for it until the contentious provisions therein are amended.

"For instance, on this issue of housing, any MP who will vote for the bill will be fired by the electorate. For us to solve this, why can't we get to a round table and evaluate this 3% levy.
"I understand everyone wants a house, but can we make sure we get in a way that we don't harm our people? Once we get it right, we won't have any issues. But if it will pass as it is, some of us will take each other in parliament," he said.
At the same time, Mulu directed a jibe at the deputy president was over his "company" and "shareholding" remarks.
The lawmaker restated Azimio's stance of seceding in the event the government doesn't recognize them due to their political leanings.
