Eight National Police Service Officers were injured during the deadly fire exchange.

The National Police Service has said they are probing a suspected terror attack in Mandera Count involving the Al-Shabaab militants. 

During the attack, 20 suspected al-Shabaab militants were killed and eight NPS officers were injured.

The attack is said to have hit the Special Operations Group (SOG) on Wednesday prompting a fire exchange between the police and militants.

The incident is said to have happened at Ogorwen Location within Mandera County on Wednesday.

"Preliminary investigations indicate that the resulting heavy gunfire exchange between the Officers who were on patrol, and the militants, left twenty militants fatally injured and eight NPS Officers injured. Police also recovered assorted weapons from the Scene of Crime," NPS said in a statement.

The police service has lauded its officers for responding swiftly to tame the attackers, believed to be Al-Shabaab.
