President William Ruto will not attend the Russia-Africa summit scheduled on Thursday and Friday this week.
In a statement sent to newsrooms on Wednesday, July 26, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed said President Ruto will be represented by organs of the Africa Union.
Hussein pointed out that the decision is in line with the stance of African Heads of State and Government.
“President William Ruto will not be personally attending the Russia-Africa summit; instead, he will be represented by organs of the Africa Union.
“This decision aligns with the stance of African Heads of State and Government, who believe that in order for Africa to engage in meaningful discussions with global partners, partnership summits organized by external parties need to be reviewed to establish an effective framework for African Union partnerships,” read the statement in part.
