UDA MP Confronts Police After Locking Out Locals From Wamatangi's Event [Video]

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Gabriel Kagombe on Thursday, August 31 confronted a contingent of police officers who had blocked locals from attending Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi's bursary-issuance event

In a video seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, the UDA MP stormed into the event followed by a group of locals and ordered the police to open the gate and allow the locals to get in. 

“Fungua hii mlango, hii ni kitu gani mnafungia watu hapa, mnasimamisha watu kitu gani?” Kagombe asked the police.

The UDA MP went on, opened the gate, and asked the locals to get into the event.

The confrontation went on during the event after a police officer allegedly switched off his microphone as he addressed Gatundu South residents. 

The locals also joined in the confrontation and reprimanded the officer for denying Kagombe his right.

In a statement via Twitter after the confrontation, Kagombe claimed that the police were under instruction from Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi to lock out the locals from his event.

He wondered why the police were taking instructions from the Governor terming it impunity.

“Today, I witnessed the total disregard of human rights by the police in Gatundu South, under the instructions of the Governor. I want to know when police started taking instructions from holders of elected office - more so in the devolved units. We are at war with impunity,” Kagombe stated.

This comes after a section of Kiambu MCAs threatened to impeach Governor Wamatangi accusing him of working in isolation without involving them in the day-to-day running of the county. 

"We are sending a warning to Governor Wamatangi and in case he doesn't change, we will deal with him as the law stipulates," said Kiambu County Assembly Majority leader Paul Macharia Wambui on Monday.
