Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa has refuted rumours that he has decamped to Kenya Kwanza under President William Ruto.
The county chief executive elected on an ODM party ticket had lately declared support for the government, dissenting from his political party's stance.
Barasa, while hosting Ruto during his working tour of Kakamega and other Western Kenya counties, restated his resolve to rally behind the president as he delivers on his mandate.
Speaking in Navakholo sub-county on Saturday, September 2, the governor said he was only reading from the same script with the president on development matters.

"I have not defected to UDA party. My focus remains on collaborating with the President on developmental matters. The people elected us all including the president, and therefore we are serving one people.
The constitution recognises the collaboration between the national and county governments. We we will not apologise to anybody for working with the president," he said.
Barasa's predecessor Wycliffe Oparanya had earlier blasted Azimio governors pledging allegiance to Ruto under the guise of seeking development.
Speaking in Vihiga in the send-off of former COTU chair Rajab Mwondi, the first governor of Kakamega pointed out that county bosses have their own resources and thus should not be at the mercy of the president.
