Bodyguards of President William Ruto's Security Advisor Monica Juma have shot dead a gunman who attacked them while on the way to their boss's home in Mwingi Central.
Juma worked as Defence CS in former President Uhuru Kenyatta's government before he landed her current role in Ruto's government.
Police sources say the bodyguards, who are officers of the National Police Service, were driving an official Prado along Mwingi-Garissa Highway when the gunman stopped them.
Juma was not with the officers at the time the attack occurred in Nguni, Mwingi, Kitui County.
Reports indicate that the man robbed the officers at gunpoint and when escaping after the robbery incident, Juma's bodyguards opened fire killing him on the spot.

Police said the gunman could be part of al Shabaab militants who have been operating in the area and had strayed from Garissa to the region.
The body was taken to a local mortuary pending autopsy and further security analysis.
