Three pupils have died after a school bus they were traveling in was involved in a grisly accident in Mathioya along the Murang’a-Gitugi road on Saturday, February 24 evening.
The accident happened after a school bus belonging to Maadili School lost control veered off the road and overturned.
The Maadili school bus was carrying 40 passengers, including 35 students, two drivers and three teachers. The students were returning from a scout event in Nyeri County when the accident occurred.
One student died on the spot while two others succumbed while receiving medical at Murang'a Level Five Hospital.
The rest of the students were evacuated to the hospital for a check-up with two of them suffering serious injuries.

In a statement, after visiting the students in hospital, Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata noted that the county dispatched its fire and ambulance services to support the victims.
“The county dispatched its fire and ambulance services to render support to the victims. They were evacuated to Muranga and Maragwa hospitals,” Governor Kanga’ta stated.
The accident comes days after a form one student in Vihiga county died and three others were injured after they were hit by a speeding vehicle along the busy Stendikisa-Kilingili Road.
The students were crossing the road from their classes to their dormitories when the accident occurred.
The form one student died on the spot while the three others were rushed to the Vihiga County Referral Hospital for medical attention.
