The man was filmed shedding tears after being cuffed against the driver's grab handle.

Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has sought to exonerate the county inspectorate of accusations of harassing a lorry driver in the city.

This was after a video made rounds of the beleaguered man went viral, showing him decrying apparent maltreatment by the inspectorate officers commonly known as 'kanjo'.

According to him, the officers took action on him after he allegedly blocked a road leading to the city centre.

In his defence, the man said he had been called to drive the lorry to parking when the officers showed up.

He was cuffed against the driver's grab handle and left inside the vehicle.

However, responding to the incident, Sakaja said the county inspectorate was not behind the man's tribulations.

While condemning the inhuman act, the governor laid blame on a national government administrator whom he accused of cuffing the man.

Sakaja said the matter was addressed to the relevant office for further action.

"This gentleman was not cuffed by City inspectorate officers but by the assistant chief. We have escalated the issue to County Commissioner David Wanyonyi to get to the bottom of it as Chiefs fall in his structure. That was wrong and inhumane," the governor said.

Speaking after the incident, the man denied being manhandled by the county askaris.

He explained that a woman assistant chief confronted him before he was cuffed.
