President William Ruto has rewarded his ally Benjamin Washiali with a government appointment.
The President has appointed Benjamin Washiali to be the chairperson of the Board of the Tourism Regulatory Authority.
In a gazette notice dated March 13, Ruto said the former Mumias East MP will serve for three years.
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 (1) (a) of the Tourism Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint—Benjamin Washiali to be the Chairperson of the Board of the Tourism Regulatory Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 15th March 2024. The appointment* of Halima Yussuf Mucheke is revoked," the gazette notice read in part.

Washiali was one of the members of Kenya Kwanza who popularised his candidature in the Western region. His influence helped him garner a considerable number of votes in the western region.
Before his latest appointment, Washiali had been nominated as Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Transport. However, he was rendered jobless after the court ruled that the position was unconstitutional.
However, with the latest appointment, Washiali will serve up to 2027.
Other appointments
The President also appointed Silas Simatwo the chairperson of the Digital Health Agency. Simatwo will serve for three years effective March 15.
Moreover, Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla has been appointed task force chairperson on the Development of Kenya Home of Human Origins Museum and Science Park in the Lake Turkana Basin steering committee.
