President Uhuru Kenyatta has dismissed claims of sideling his Deputy William Ruto from government ahead of the next general election set for 2022.

In an interview with France 24; a state-owned media outlet in France, President Kenyatta noted that his pact with the opposition led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga should not be interpreted to mean that he’s sidelined his deputy.

According to the President, he decided to work with the opposition in a bid to unite the country and enhance inclusivity.

“There are some who feel that me reaching out to the opposition is meant to sideline William Ruto but there is nothing more to the contrary. What we are trying to do is bring people together to agree on issues that divide us and then be in a position to actually have an election where the people of Kenya will have the opportunity to choose a leader and have a system that is more inclusive where the results will be such that there is acceptability,” said Kenyatta.

Will Uhuru Support Ruto in 2022?

Regarding the 2022 polls and whether he will support his deputy, the President steered clear of the debate, noting that his main focus is to leave a united, peaceful and stable country when his term elapses in 2022.
