The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) announced the immediate suspension of the Bungoma Line Safari Ltd and Smart Highways Sacco over a supposed flouting of the agency's rules.
According to the NTSA, the Saccos failed to comply with provisions of Section 5 of the NTSA (Operation of PSV) Regulations, 2014 and analysis of speed data violations that were compiled through the NTSA Intelligent Road Safety Management System (IRSMS).
"The authority notifies the public that it has suspended the operator licenses for Bungoma Line Safari Ltd and Smart Highways Sacco Ltd," the agency said in a statement.
To be allowed to operate, NTSA asked the two saccos to comply with all the requirements of the Traffic Act, and the PSV Regulations.

The Saccos were further directed to present their vehicles for compliance inspection to establish their roadworthiness and to confirm the functionality of the installed speed limiters.
All their drivers were also required to undergo road safety sensitisation.
However, reacting to the development, Bungoma Line Safari assured its customers that operations would be on as usual.
"We got you covered. We are Bungoma Line Shuttle," the sacco said in a Facebook update.
