National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi is among the top leaders being fronted to replace President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Mt Kenya region political kingpin after he retires from office in 2022.

Media reports indicate that Speaker Muturi has been approached by eminent persons from the region including; the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders, the Kiama Kikuyu Council of Elders, the Embu and Mbeere Cultural Elders among others.

According to those fronting Muturi, he has what it takes to succeed President Kenyatta as he is currently the third most powerful person in the country.

His wealthy political experience has also been cited as one of the reasons why he’s being fronted to succeed President Kenyatta.


Speaking to a local daily, Nominated MP Cecily Mbarire confirmed that such talks are in place, adding that a conclusive decision will be made after analyzing support patterns of other potential candidates.

“The conversation to make Muturi kingpin started early last year and is beginning to gain traction this year. We are positioning him as a would-be successor but as we move along, we will be able to know where to go.

 “As we move along, I am sure he will be listening to what the leaders have to say. We also want to make our interests known to him. He should expect people to be talking to him," she said.

Reacting to a story published by a local daily on the subject matter, Speaker Muturi stated that he is “ready to serve”.
