The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives from the Anti-Narcotics unit have foiled an attempt by a suspect to traffic methamphetamine through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
In a statement on Tuesday, July 2, JKIA said the anti-narcotics detectives based at JKIA received a tip-off on the incident and carried out a search at a warehouse at Mitchell Cott Shed.
The officers recovered 1.15kg of methamphetamine estimated to be worth Sh9.2 million in street value.
“Attempts by a suspect to traffic 1.15kg of methamphetamine through the Jomo Kenyatta Intn'l Airport have proved futile after the concealed parcel stuffed in a bigger consignment was discovered at the FedEx Express warehouse.
“The seizure of the Sh9.2 million drug in street estimates followed a tip-off to Anti-Narcotics detectives based at JKIA yesterday, prompting a search within the warehouse at the Mitchell Cott Shed,” read the statement in part.

The detectives have so far launched investigations to identify the suspected trafficker and the intended destination of the methamphetamine.
The incident comes weeks after a team of Anti-Narcotics officers from Kilindini trailed Collins Omondi to his apartment and seized bhang concealed in a manilla sack, camouflaged with a mound of oranges.
“Upon closer examination, the sack was found to harbor 14kg of a dry greenish plant material, arousing strong suspicion of the illicit drug, Bhang,” DCI stated on June 14.
