National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has announced the construction of an ultra-modern media center within the parliament precincts.
In a statement on Wednesday, July 17 after holding a meeting with media stakeholders, Wetang’ula said the facility would help reporters to deliver their mandate more effectively.
“The PSC through my stewardship has committed to establishing an Ultra-Modern Media Center within the Parliament square to help facilitate Parliamentary Reporters to effectively deliver their mandate,” said Wetang’ula.
The National Assembly Speaker noted that the media is an integral stakeholder in facilitating the effective delivery of Parliamentary work and in informing the public.
Wetang’ula assured the stakeholders that the National Assembly and the Senate will relook at existing media legislation to align them with current trends and technological advancements.

“During the meeting, I assured the Media industry that the two Houses of Parliament will re-look into the existing media legislations to realign them with the current trends coupled with the advent of technology,” Wetang’ula added.
This comes a day after Citizen TV journalists Stephen Letoo and Seth Olale claimed that they have been banned from Parliament by PSC.
In a statement, Letoo claimed that they were banned for covering the Occupy Parliament protests in June.
The Citizen TV reporter noted that they were accused of being a source of insecurity for MPs.
“Other than the relocation of Parliamentary journalists to outside Parliament, there is a resolution to ban some journalists myself included who covered occupy Parliament from stepping in the new area. Seth Olale who exposed the MPs escape tunnel also banned,” Letoo claimed.
Olale on his part termed the alleged move by PSC as ill-advised and against the freedom of the media.
