Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor John Barorot has stepped down from his position.

Speaking in a press briefing on Monday, August 19, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii disclosed that Barorot resigned to take up a CEO role in an international company.

"Today we announce the exit of our deputy governor, Eng. John Barorot, who has secured a position as CEO of an international organisation in ICT sector. His last day of work will be on August 31, 2024," Governor Bii remarked.

The county boss went on to say that his deputy's decision deserved respect, adding that his contributions to the development of Uasin Gishu County were immeasurable.

At the same time, Governor Bii disclosed that he had a conversation with Barorot in the last month over his exit, dispelling reports of a bad working relationship.

"The naysayers who are bringing out breaking news especially the negative part of it, I'm sorry for you. We have had a very deep conversation with the deputy in the last one month as we agreed towards his exit," he stated.

He added that he would soon be nominating a replacement who would be vetted by the County Assembly for approval of appointment.

Speaking after the governor's announcement, Barorot thanked Bii for the opportunity to work with him and said he was leaving with his head held high, having served the people of Uasin Gishu.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank Governor Jonathan Bii for giving me the opportunity to work with him him in serving the people of Uasin Gishu. I go with my head high because I have weighed between the current responsibility that I have with the ongoing international digital transformation. Looking at being a player in that space of technology, it is the reason why I have decided to take up that role," Barorot stated.

His departure comes at a time when Eldoret, a city in Uasin Gishu County, was granted city status in a ceremony presided over by President William Ruto.
