The officers seized 245 rolls of the substance as they ran after the suspected trafficker.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives are searching for a suspected drug trafficker who fled and abandoned his substances after his trick was uncovered.

The man was transporting rolls of bhang to Mombasa when the police thwarted his ventures.

According to the DCI, the suspect used an elaborate technique to avoid being caught by the state law enforcers.

He had packed 245 rolls of the foregoing substance under bunches of raw bananas to give the impression he was only transporting foodstuff.

The suspect hid the illegal substances under raw bananas.

However, the suspect, who was using public transport, aroused the attention of booking office attendants in Siaya when he took off after they started inspecting his luggage.

"Using a nylon sack to conceal his cargo, the trafficker's plan seemed foolproof. However, as the package was being inspected at the booking office, the trafficker vanished into thin air, setting off alarm bells for the vigilant attendant. Sensing something fishy, the attendant alerted the police, and a swift response was mounted," the DCI said in a statement sent on X.

The booking attendants contacted and proceeded to inspect the luggage, and they came across the rolls weighing 17.5 kilograms.

The rolls were taken to the Siaya Police Station as the offices embarked on searching for the suspect.
