The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) secretariat co-chairman Dennis Waweru has stated that that the team is targeting a referendum in June 2021.
Waweru exuded confidence that thirty five-county assemblies would pass the BBI bill by the end of February.
"Our target for a referendum is June 2021. We are confident that 35 county assemblies will approve the Bill," the former MP said via a tweet.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, Waweru mentioned that the team was within the timelines the secretariat had communicated earlier.
The BBI bill has been tabled in 22 county assemblies.

However, the BBI team suffered a major setback on Thursday after Baringo County Assembly became the first to reject the bill.

The Thursday assembly debate degenerated into chaos after a clash between KANU and Jubilee MCAs over the bill.
The bill needs the support of at least 24 county assemblies before it can be tabled at the National Assembly.
