"It has nothing to do with pressure or stress."

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has acknowledged that he has lost some weight after concerns were raised about his health.

Speaking while appearing before the Senate on Wednesday, October 2, Mbadi, however, noted that the weight loss was not related to work pressure or stress. 

The CS maintained that it was healthy to keep fit and therefore he has deliberately been cutting weight adding that he would continue to cut it.

“There were talks that I have lost weight. I just want to advise those who are graduating in age that you must keep fit. It is healthy and it is very good for your help. I’ve deliberately been cutting weight and I will continue to cut. It has nothing to do with pressure or stress,” Mbadi remarked.

He further stated that there was pressure at the National Treasury but affirmed that he was prepared to face and discharge his duties.

“There is pressure, yes, at the Treasury but it is something that I am prepared for, and I will continue to discharge my duties,” Mbadi explained.

The Treasury CS was responding to various questions from senators on the floor of the House regarding his docket.

While presenting his questions to Mbadi, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina jokingly claimed that he would offer a goat to the CS to help him regain weight.

"I have just noticed that the Treasury CS has lost a lot of weight. I'm offering to give him a goat so that he can gain it a little bit," Ledama stated.

Meanwhile, Mbadi affirmed that his ministry will be more open and transparent on the steps and processes it undertakes regarding proposals on taxes in order to avert similar demonstrations like the ones on the Finance Bill 2024. 

He also noted that the Treasury was working on rolling out a unified payroll system to smoke out ghost workers in government entities.
