Safaricom revealed that its CEO was also celebrating his birthday on this special day.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Meru University.

In the Friday, October 4 event, Ndegwa was recognised for his initiatives in the country's business sector.

He was also recognised for his initiatives that were aimed at improving the country's education sector.

Notably, Safaricom revealed that its CEO was also celebrating his birthday on the day he was conferred with the doctorate.

"We are excited to announce that our CEO Peter Ndegwa and the Chancellor of Meru University of Science & Technology has today been conferred with an Honorary Doctorate of Business Management. The conferment is in recognition of his outstanding contribution to society and exemplary leadership," read the statement in part.

"A celebration of Peter’s unwavering dedication to advancing education, fostering innovation, and driving impactful change both within the university and the wider community. Congratulations Dr. Peter Ndegwa, CBS. Happy Birthday too and many happy returns!"

Ndegwa was named CEO of Safaricom in 2020 following the exit of Bob Collymore.

The CEO has an education background in business and economics including an MBA from the London Business School.

For his Bachelor’s degree, he studied Economics at the University of Nairobi. The CEO is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
