The Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs has dismissed claims that President William Ruto's daughter, Charlene Ruto, has been appointed as the chairperson of the National Mining Corporation.
On Friday, October 11, a fake Gazette Notice announcing Charlene's appointment to head the corporation for a period of three years went viral, prompting a clarification from the ministry.
Through its official X account, the Ministry of Mining refuted the claims by attaching the original Gazette Notice indicating Joseph Kipchumba Lagat as the appointee for the post.
Additionally, the State Department for Mining had earlier shared the original Gazette Notice and congratulated Lagat stating, "Congratulations Hon. Lagat for this well-deserved appointment to steer the National Mining Corporation to greater heights."
The National Mining Corporation serves as the investment arm of the Kenyan government in the mining sector.
