Kiambaa Sub-county Police Commander Pius Mwanthi has shared details of a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of two people on Monday, October 15, in Decimo, Ruaka.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, October 15, Mwanthi said the two victims, a man and a woman, died on the spot after being hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the road.

According to Mwanthi, the driver of the vehicle, a new Toyota Land Cruiser SUV fled the scene immediately after the crash.

It was then that irate members of the public set the vehicle on fire.

"Our officers responded very fast, however, because of what happened, members of the public became very violent and in the process they set ablaze the vehicle that was involved in the accident," Mwanthi said.

He noted that efforts to identify the driver of the vehicle have been put in place as well as investigations into the cause of the accident.

"At the moment, he is unknown but we are working on it; to find out the owner of the vehicle," he added.

This comes a month after a new Range Rover was involved in a tragic accident on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway, resulting in the deaths of its driver, Jamal Mubarak, and a female passenger.

The incident occurred around 7 AM on August 27, 2024, when Mubarak, reportedly speeding and attempting to overtake another vehicle, collided head-on with a canter truck in the Maji Ya Chumvi area.

Both individuals died at the scene, with three others injured from the truck.

The luxury vehicle was not yet registered and was being delivered to a client after being imported.
