A deadly fire broke out at Equity Bank's Othaya Branch in Nyeri County early Wednesday, October 23, razing down the premises.
In photos and videos seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, firefighters were seen using water to extinguish the fire at the premises.
Confirming the incident, Equity Bank disclosed that the fire broke out at around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The bank, however, stated that the fire was successfully put out following a response from the Nyeri fire department and local police.

"We wish to notify you that there was a fire incident at our Othaya Branch, which was reported at 1.30 a.m. following a fire detector alarm. Wells Fargo responded, the Nyeri fire department and local police were notified and responded. The fire has been put out," Equity Bank stated.
Following the incident, the bank advised customers from the Othaya branch to access services at the Kiria-ini, Nyeri, or Mukurweini branches.
Equity Bank also informed customers that they can access their accounts via the bank’s mobile banking by dialing *247#, through the Equity Mobile App, online banking (https://equityonline.equitygroupholdings.com), as well as through Equity agents and ATMs.
The bank has not disclosed the value of the property damaged in the fire.
The incident occurred just hours after 50 houses were destroyed by a fire at Mukuru Kwa Reuben in Nairobi.
A Nairobi County official confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations suggested the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault.
"The Nairobi City County Government confirms a fire at Mukuru Kwa Reuben initially suspected to have been a gas fire, but a preliminary investigation indicates it may be as a result of electrical fault. The gas cylinders located in some of the houses exploded thereafter. Approximately fifty housing units were affected," a statement by Bramwell Simiyu, a Nairobi County official, read in part.
