Major traffic disruption is expected in the city on Sunday, October 27 owing to the planned Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon.

As revealed in a notice by the marathon organisers, Lang'ata Road and the Southern Bypass are among the major roads to be affected.

The marathon will be officiated at Uhuru Gardens along Lang’ata Road with participants running along Southern Bypass before returning to the national monument.

The affected roads will be closed between midnight and 1:30 PM.

Over 250,000 people are expected to participate in the Marathon, therefore, motorists who plan to use the two roads were advised to seek alternative routes.

"Drivers travelling from Karen to Kikuyu will need to use Dagoretti Road, while those heading from Karen to Mombasa Road via the Southern Bypass should take Lang’ata Road instead," read the notice in part.

"Motorists travelling from Kikuyu to Dagoretti will still have access to the Southern Bypass, as will those commuting from Karen (Karinde) to Kikuyu, who can connect through Dagoretti Road.

On the other hand, drivers leaving Ngong Road to Kikuyu and its environs were advised to use Waiyaki Way.

“We urge motorists to cooperate with traffic authorities and use alternative routes during this period to minimize inconvenience. Our top priority is ensuring a safe and seamless experience for everyone," Benard Otieno, the superintendent of Police in charge of Road Traffic Safety stated.

"To support this, we have deployed 136 police officers, 30 DCI personnel, and 80 traffic officers to manage safety and maintain a smooth flow of traffic."
