Media personality Joyce Gituro has issued an apology following backlash over a comment she made regarding a pastor who was suspended over allegations of misconduct.

In a statement on Tuesday, August 5, Gituro clarified that she had initially misunderstood the situation and responded before knowing the full facts.

"I shared a comment yesterday, unaware of the full and serious nature of the pastor’s suspension. I assumed it was an internal disciplinary matter and reacted to what seemed like public shaming. Once I learned the truth, I deleted the comment," she stated.

Gituro went on to express her remorse and affirmed her stance against abuse.

"Let me be clear: I stand firmly against all forms of abuse, especially as a mother and a Christian. I stand against any form of abuse and also with the victims. I totally regret my fast reaction to that story," she added.

On Sunday, August 3, the Nairobi Baptist Church put up a statement announcing the departure of Senior Pastor Munengi Mulandi over allegations of misconduct.

The Church further revealed that following a review of his actions, the Elders Council revoked his ordination.

"Munengi Mulandi is no longer serving as the Senior Pastor of Nairobi Baptist Church, effective 1st June 2025, following serious allegations of misconduct. After careful review of his actions against biblical standards, they were deemed incompatible with the calling of a servant of Jesus Christ and the responsibilities of ordained pastoral ministry.

"Consequently, after prayerful consideration and full awareness of the weight of such an action, the Elders Council made the decision to revoke his ordination This means that, as a church, we sadly can no longer affirm that he is qualified to be a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ," the statement read in part.

While reacting to the statement, Gituro took issue with the Church for publicising the matter, a move that sparked outrage from Kenyans on social media.

"So, why put it on social media? You are damaging a brother more," she stated in the now deleted comment.
