That speed that MPs used to impeach me, let them use the same speed to pass the coffee bill - Rigathi Gachagua.

Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi has told off former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that Parliament cannot rush to the Coffee Bill, 2023, because it has to first deal with 'plans' that he had.

In a statement on Saturday, November 2, Wamumbi alleged that only one company was buying all the coffee in Nyeri County and he has to deal with the situation first before the bill is passed.

"Rigathi Gachagua the reason why we can not pass the coffee bill with speed as you want, we must first deal with all the plans you had...

"You know that Ksh3 per kilogram on every Nyeri coffee farmer was being diverted. I will first open the Mathira Coffee Miller, deal with Alliance Berry Limited, and then we pass the bill," Wamumbi claimed.

He made the remarks after the former deputy president asked MPs to pass the bill with the speed they used to remove him from office.

Speaking on Saturday during a burial ceremony in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua claimed that he did good job in bringing coffee reforms while he was serving as the deputy president.

"I am proud of the job the president gave me in the coffee sector. We did a great job in bringing reforms and the Coffee Bill, 2023, is in Parliament.

"That speed that MPs used to impeach me, let them use the same speed to pass the coffee bill to become law. Let it be passed and gazetted in the night, and the president sign it the next morning," Gachagua remarked.

Meanwhile, the former deputy president stated that he has no problem with the president following his impeachment and is giving him the opportunity to deliver.
