“I am on the ground and people are calm."

Jubilee Party nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege has urged Mt. Kenya leaders to rally behind the newly appointed Deputy President, Kithure Kindiki.

Speaking on Wednesday, November 6, Chege noted that residents of Mt. Kenya are calm after the appointment of Kindiki following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.

The lawmaker told the leaders that the Mt Kenya region cannot be in the opposition and therefore they should align with the new leadership to ensure the region's interests are represented in government.

“I am on the ground and people are calm. I want to ask the Mt Kenya people to remain calm. The only thing I want to urge leaders who are in my position in Parliament and Senate is to be humble. We had two sons of the mountain; one served for two years and another one is hopefully going to serve in the next three years.

"Let us encourage each other, pray for him and support him because we cannot be in the opposition. We want to work with the government so that our people can benefit,” Chege remarked.

The legislator stated that President William Ruto is the one who knows why he changed his deputy even as she called for the support of the duo.

“President William Ruto is the one who appointed the first deputy president and the second one and we know there were a lot of challenges even in the appointment of the first one. However, he chose him and is the one who has reasons why he has decided to change. We are praying for them that God will give them wisdom and they are going to work for Kenyans,” Chege explained.

She urged the leaders to set aside political differences and focus on development and service delivery to the people.

Meanwhile, following his impeachment, Gachagua retreated to his Mathira home and has since stated that he has no problems with the president.
