This came weeks after President Ruto directed action to resolve the challenges faced by the university.

Learning activities at Moi University are slated to resume after the Ministry of Education deployed its team led by CS Julius Ogamba to solve the underlying issues.

For months, the cash-strapped tertiary institution has been making the headlines for nasty reasons, with learners decrying inactivity in their lecture halls.

On Saturday, November 30, CS Ogamba, in the company of the Higher Education Principal Secretary Beatrice and other relevant stakeholders, met with the university's management, lectures and other staffers to realise a solution to the prolonged strike that had stifled learning.

The parties realised a Return-to-Work Formula (RTWF) agreement between Moi University and the staff unions - UASU and KUSU.

This would see the lecturers return to the lecture halls soon.

"Signing of the RTWF Formula marks the end of a month-long strike that paralysed operations and learning at the University. CS thanked the staff unions for their willingness to address their grievances through dialogue and affirmed the government’s commitment to address their concerns," the Ministry of Education said.

This came weeks after President William Ruto ordered the immediate resolution of internal administrative issues battling the university.

Speaking on Thursday, November 21, while making the State of the Nation Address in Parliament, President Ruto noted that he had given firm instructions for the issues to be addressed.

He maintained that the government introduced the new higher education funding model to pull out universities from financial crises.

“Recognizing financial challenges raised by our universities, we introduced a new funding model. This model gives priority to the most vulnerable students while also pulling our universities back from the brink of collapse.

"The remaining challenges for a few universities like Moi University are related to internal administrative and governance issues, which I have given firm instructions that they should be addressed,” the president remarked.

The prolonged lecturers' strike was characterised by payment issues, that led to the closure of the institution before it was recently reopened.

Last month, the university's Vice Chancellor Professor Isaac Kosgei appeared before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) following summons.

Kosgei was being investigated by EACC over allegations of embezzlement of public funds amounting to Ksh2.2 billion.
