Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has fired back at Kenyans on social media opposing Raila Odinga's African Union Commission Chairmanship bid.
Speaking in Manga, Taita-Taveta County on Tuesday, December 3, the CS stated that it was irresponsible for Kenyans to oppose their own because of petty politics.
"How can I sit and look at social media seeing a Kenyan who does not know anything post that Raila Odinga must fall? Talking about AU. How unpatriotic can you be as Kenyans that even one of your own, who has a chance to lead AU, you're saying they must fall? Because of petty politics? We will come for you, my friend," he stated.
Joho also responded to criticism and threats he received from a section of Kenyans on social media on Monday evening, reiterating his initial statement that the country won't progress with criticism coming from social media.

"Yesterday I said that the country won't progress with all the criticism coming from social media. The project we are launching here today, is it Facebook that launched it? Or Twitter? Or TikTok? Yesterday they came at me saying they wanted to 'greet' me but they sent me Ksh 1 each, please, today send me Ksh 100 or Ksh 200," he said.
Meanwhile, speaking during the same event, President William Ruto said that the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will still be upgraded despite the cancellation of the controversial JKIA-Adani deal.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to establishing a new framework to ensure the project's success, further dismissed critics of the project, asserting that some have never even been to an airport.
"What gain do you make when you stop the building of an airport in your country? Those who are opposing have never even been to an airport. I want to assure you that we will build a new airport. We may have stopped Adani from doing it. I was confident that he was going to build our airport and he was going to do a good job.
"But because of the law that bars us from engaging with people who have cases, we stopped it. But that does not mean we are not going to build the airport. We are going to get a new framework and work with people who believe in this country to build a new airport for us because that is how the future is going to look like,” President Ruto remarked.
