Several Members of Parliament from Tanzania have been rushed to hospital after being involved in a road accident while travelling to Mombasa for the 14th edition of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Games. 

Speaking while addressing journalists on Friday, December 6, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula confirmed that no fatalities had been reported. 

"One bus carrying some of our colleagues from Tanzania was involved in an accident. We have no fatalities but some injuries. You will get better information once we get to Mombasa. 

"The team of leaders who are involved in the management of the games will be able to appraise you and we wish a quick recovery to those who have sustained various injuries," he told members of the press.

The 14th Edition of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Games will be hosted in Mombasa from December 6 to 18, 2024. 

The games will feature participation from eight East African Community member states, competing in various sports including football, netball, volleyball, and athletics. 

The opening ceremony is scheduled for December 7 at the Mbaraki Stadium.

Other venues include Mombasa Sports Club where additional soccer matches will be played and Aga Khan Academy where indoor games will be held.

The event aims to promote regional integration through sports, emphasizing collaboration among parliamentarians and enhancing public engagement with the EAC initiatives.
